My First Official Blog and The Beginning of My Journey with Sensei

Updated: Aug 14, 2022

I’m so excited to share my first official blog for my new business, Shear Edge Hospitality. I’m inspired and off to a great start as a Sensei Educator. Recently I attended the 2022 ISSE (International Salon & Spa Expo) in Long Beach, California with Sensei Shear Systems.

If you've never attended this particular expo, it's one of the largest international platforms for salon's, spa's, beauty industry professionals, cosmetologists, barbers and instructors.

This was such an amazing experience because I'm used to attending these types of shows as a spectator. I'm usually that hair stylist on the other side of the booth asking the questions, watching the demos, and attending the classes.

This was new and so enlightening because I was working behind the booth with the Sensei owners, the awesome team, educating the customers, answering questions and showing them hands on how to properly use all of the amazing shears Sensei has to offer.

I also got to work next to one of Britain's best hairdressing and barbering educator's, Erik Lander. With over 30 years experience in the industry, he was very impressive. Erik’s unique understanding of the industry, his style and techniques, and his interactions with the hair stylists walking by, was something that I look forward to sharing and interacting with my clients. I've always been interested in education. And not much longer after getting to college, I realized that I wanted to be a high school jewelry teacher.

Fast forward a few years and many life experiences, I became a hair stylist while still sharing my dreams in the art world. It was and still is the best decision I ever made. About a year ago, my husband and I made the decision to move to FL. With this, came letting go of my 22 year career as a hair stylist back in Colorado. Once I was settled in my new beautiful city of Tallahassee, I began searching for some franchises or entrepreneurial ideas to start a business.

My husband and I almost purchased a franchise, but my heart wasn’t fully in it. I knew I had something more to offer, especially in the career of hair stylists. And that’s when I discovered the need of being a mobile shear sharpener.

Little did I know, that my 22 years of being in the hair industry would give me so many more paths of fulfilling the education part of me as well as staying on the cutting edge of style. I can't wait to take this trade to a whole new level, learning more, meeting all the talent in Tallahassee, growing indefinitely.

To say that I am excited about this new adventure would be a massive understatement. I am the new certified Sensei Educator, dealer, and one of two female shear sharpeners trained by Sensei in the world. I'm beyond grateful. I now realize the sky is not the limit, it’s just the beginning.
